The company Curtumes Aveneda, Lda. was born on February 18, 1998 and is engaged in “Industry of Tanning and Finishing of Leather”. In terms of production gave continuity to the company Curtumes Miguel Branco, Lda. (which existed since January 1980) and started to have only a commercial activity and is currently its associate.

Currently has 42 employees, a capital of €333.000 and has production capacity of about 20.000m2/month. It has of covered area, factory and warehouse about 4.000m2 and about 17.000m2 of uncovered area. It has a small equity stake in the CTIC (Technological Center of Leather Industry) and in the CTCP (Technological Center of Footwear in Portugal).

The company has always been dedicated to the production of articles of middle and high quality for footwear and leatherwork. About 20% of its production is for the internal market, the remainder is intended for export to countries such as France, Germany, Spain and China.

The high technical capacity of its human resources and participation in several projects of R&TD, as well the permanently updating of its manufacturing processes, allows the company to remain at the frontline regarding to launching innovative products environmentally friendly and high value-added, highlighting ecological leather, metal-free (BIOLEATHER), waterproof articles, washable leather articles, etc.

Environmental concerns have always had a prominent place in the priorities of the company. For treatment of their wastewater, the company built a wastewater treatment plant (chemical and biological) that respects the highest standards of quality. Parts of the solid waste (through a composting process) are used as agricultural fertilizer, while only a small part is sent to landfill. Concerning to gaseous effluents, all emitting sources are equipped with systems for washing gases and are adequately monitored. Concerning to energetic level, the company has recently made several investments, giving highlight to the restructuring of the layout of the production area, substitution of the lighting system (started to only use low energy bulbs) and the installation of a system of 70 solar panels to heat water it uses in its manufacture process.
